The causes of most rheumatological diseases remain largely unknown. In addition to continuing education and exchange of expertise, the objective of our research activities ist to contribute new aspects to the state of the art medical knowledge, which is the basis for the management and counselling of our patients.
Our research team around Daniel Lottaz and Beat Trüb currently works on several projects, with the goal of elaborating and understanding the mechanisms of chronic inflammation.
The EU-project "Mucosal proteases and their inhibitors in inflammatory
bowel disease - From etiopathogenetic insight to innovative
therapy" (www.ibdase.org) started on March 3/4 with the kick-off
meeting hosted at the University of Bern. The research consortium (10
European partners), the representative of the EU-commission and
associated interested parties met during two days to discuss
intensively and in detail the project plan. The project is running for
three years and is coordinated by Dr. Daniel Lottaz at the University Clinic for Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology and Allergology.
